Gym Empire – Progress Update 39

Game Development

The last few days have been glorious! Perfect for some game development! Call me sad but I love being sat in the car, windows open, breeze coming through, music on, doing some game dev!

Game Dev Car

The focus this week has been on the game loop. Starting from the start menu, loading the first level and beginning some gameplay. What was the first issue I came across? The save load UI I had built last week…

But it’s all cool! It was just a small fix. The objects that hold the filenames just needed loading into the UI. Job done moving on!

As I progress through the first level placing equipment, letting clients come in some areas for improvement are starting to scream out! But this is great, it’s giving me a  list of updates to focus on. The worst thing to happen would be not seeing any areas for improvement! That’s when you guys are going to come in to help. But we’re not there yet!

Currently we’re still at the point where, initial client behaviour needs tightening up and accident scenarios need fixing. These two things are the current issue areas that are stopping to early stages of the game have a nice flow. Once I have these area fixed I’m thinking a story board of how the first half should play out will provide a nice clear direction for the development.

Other Developments

Now that I have a bit of experience under my belt planning, recording and editing videos for the YouTube channel. I am finding that I am able to perform these tasks quicker. This leaves me with more time for game development!

I have also started putting much more focus on planning each day. Each morning planning what I aim to achieve throughout the day. This has really helped refocus my attention on the game development side of things and is speeding up the progress considerably!

Gym Empire is my number one priority and that needs to be reflected in the time I spend developing it. I’m a big advocate for spending plenty of time to support marketing but that’s no use if there is no game to market. Therefore the mission is to get back to the routine doing game development every day. Planning each day properly will enable me to do this whilst still building the YouTube channel and posting regular development updates across the various social medias.

Time Management

So the plan this week is:

  • Fix client accident behaviour
  • Clean up initial client behaviour
  • Story board first 30 mins of gameplay
