Hope you all had a great weekend!
I took a break from developing this weekend to enjoy some more family time, but that didn’t stop me and my wife discussing some of the less intensive aspects of the game design. We spent quite a bit of time discussing soundtrack options. I very focused on having a strong soundtrack to the game to help compliment the sound effects (which will play a large part in the game) but also it is key in defining the whole theme of the game. As the game is going for an abstract aesthetic, the choice of soundtrack can entirely take the theme of the game from one extreme to the other. For that reason careful choice is essential. I also don’t want to cut any corners on the quality for what I have planned.
We started by looking at a lot of music styles and in the theme for which I have planned and it actually turned out to be a really enjoyable experience with a couple of drinks. After a few hours of trialing different genres and music styles I think we’ve settled on a set that fully compliments the vision I have for the game. This not only covers the main game sections but also the more intense parts and the endgame too. I am very excited to start to put together the pieces as I obtain them to build up the game as a whole.
Another thing that came up by accident was also the name of the game. I was talking about the fact that a Netflix series exists also called Glow and that whenever I use #GLOW it ends up mixed in with all this neon dancing associated hashtags, lol. To which my wife said “But you’re name doesn’t have a W in it.” To which I replied, “Yeah it’s called Glow.”
To cut a long story short, it turns out my wife had a dream where she thought we’d discussed taking the W out of the name to just have Glo and how that would lead to a good banner image (I’ll save the details for the banner release). As soon as she explained that, I thought GENIUS!! How did I not think of that?! I’ve been thinking recently what style to go for, for the banner image and also if the name Glow will get washed away in a sea of Netflix hype. But this simple change solves both of those!
So from this point on the name is officially changing to Glo.
It just goes to show that every man needs a strong smart woman behind them 🙂
