Happy Friday everyone it’s vault time!
I’ve been thinking a lot about game launch this week. Partly because I want to make sure I’m well prepared ahead of the game and partly because I’m just excited at the thought of it. Therefore this week has a lot of focus on game launch and contacting press, however this weeks entries give a different perspective of some of the usual topics:
A Guide To Launching Indie Games – This is a 3 part series about planning to launch your indie game. I really liked this one because it went a little deeper than the usual press list/press kit focused guides. It talked a lot about engaging your community and different ways to interact and share your progress. It gave me food for thought during the development of Glo but also where I may head for future endeavors.
Five PR Tips Indies Really Need – This is article focuses on how to communicate with the press in an effective way. The thing that made it stand out for me was that it is written by a journalist experienced in receiving such communication from indies. It makes for a very genuine and honest perspective from the side of the person you are trying to get to look at your game.
Lessons Learned Making Gunpoint Quickly Without Going Mad – This is talk at GDC by Tom Francis, the creator of Gunpoint. A really good indie ‘origin’ story overall but I feel I can particularly relate to it as I am also making Glo in Gamemaker (as was Gunpoint) whilst balancing a full time job. It’s great to hear the success that Tom found and is now making his next game full time, Heat Signature.
Take it easy and I hope you have a great weekend!
