Well not quite. I’m still 100% behind Glo and there is still a lot of work that can be done in marketing it and supporting it for the community. Also there are a few more reviews planned for the next few weeks so it will be nice as they trickle through.
However, in reference to the title, what does life hold after Glo? Well the past 3.5 months have been an amazing ride of discovery, understanding and excitement. I’ve learnt so much making Glo and I’ve enjoyed every single second of it. As is inevitable with game development you have hundreds of new ideas popping into your head that are trying to pull you away from your current project. I’m really proud that I’ve managed to stay focused and complete Glo as I know this is a big challenge, and there have been so many ideas I’ve been itching to work on! Well now Glo is shipped I’m free to start playing around with them.
It’s important that I fully think out and prototype a bunch if ideas as I want to be absolutely certain that the next project I’m working on is the right one for me. I plan to take at least 6 months on the next project if for nothing else but to ensure there is adequate time to build up interest and a following around the next game. I’m keen that those 6 months are used as effectively as possible for two reasons:
My free time is very thin on the ground so I want to know I’m using it as best as I can
I believe a key to being successful at indie development even if going full time is an ability to quickly move onto projects that are worth the effort and reduce the time spent not working on the end product
It’s easier said than done to achieve this but I believe with an efficient way of knocking up some prototypes, exploring the current gaming trends, knowing my own skill levels and being able to move onto another idea quickly are key to getting onto the next viable game. All of the ideas I will be exploring will be ones I am excited about working on so that will form the foundation. I absolutely do not believe in working on something you don’t believe in or enjoy as I don’t believe you can make it to the best of your ability.
So far I’ve already knocked up a couple of prototypes and I can feel myself gravitating heavily to a certain type of game. I think I will be able to announce a small bit of information soon but I want to wait until I am absolutely certain.
Until then, enjoy Glo and watch this space…
