Gym Empire – Progress Update 8

Game Development

Hi everyone! Apologies for the distinct lack of blog content over the past few weeks. There’s really no excuse but I’ve been focusing most of my spare time on getting Gym Empire up to a standard for a teaser trailer and some behind the scenes work towards some early marketing as well as writing up the ongoing blog series focusing on creating an indie game whilst dealing with real life.

Now that I’ve completed the Gym Empire trailer and the Coming Soon page is live on Steam I’m going to be getting back into more of a routine which includes posting regular updates and blog content, starting with this pot.

Other Developments

So progress with Gym Empire has been really great, especially after taking a step back from the animation problem I was having. That problem is still outstanding but with the help of my brilliant wife, I decided to move on a focus on other areas. That has enabled me to get some great momentum on developing the other areas of Gym Empire including:

  • Cleaning up the UI
  • Introducing staff
  • Environment building

Every single area of Gym Empire still needs work to mature but I’m getting ever so closer to having all of the basics in place. Once that is done I can iterate over the whole design and perfect for the gameplay experience.

I’ve also had some great feedback from the tycoon gaming community and other developers with regards to Gym Empire as a concept. This is really giving me the confidence that this idea is as great as I imagined it to be. I’ve had loads of feedback on feature ideas also, all of them great. I’m not even sure if I’m going to be able to fit all of them in but I’m so excited to have this level of interest. The great feedback, getting the trailer created and the progress I’m making on development have given a real tangible vision of where Gym Empire is heading. I’m getting excited just thinking about it! Thinking about it, it’s actually been a really great week!

With Gym Empire getting even more into the public eye, I now need to focus on the marketing more carefully also. As well as the development tasks over the next week I also need to look at the online presence of Gym Empire. Actually as I’m writing I’m also thinking, in my blog series about making an indie game I make reference to my weekly task lists I would post about and how they helped plan and focus my work, I think it’s a good time to start that with Gym Empire…

Time Management

So this week’s tasks are:

  • Look further into the MatchTarget animation issue (possibly try using a different client model to see if that affects things)
  • Work on Staff behaviour (interacting with clients)
  • Update the Gym Empire landing page
  • Start creating Gym Empire press kit
  • Create a Gym Empire presence on IndieDB
  • Finish writing Part 3 of “Making an indie game series”

Gym Empire is now available to add to your Steam Wishlist.
