Game Development So Far
Game development this week has been a bit slower than planned. The short term plan is to build Gym Empire into a fully playable tycoon game experience. Including all of the fundamental aspects required to make great tycoon simulation game. The plan was to complete:
- 3D Models and Animation : The development of the 3D models and animation was completed this week. Successfully integrating the exercise bike and relevant animation.
- Building : The plan was to also incorporate the building option for growing gym size. However, I didn’t get round to progressing on this like I had planned. The two main reasons behind this were struggling to find a good solution. It’s important that the gym building feature is robust and up to current sim game standards, like Two Point Hospital. Therefore, I’ve taken some extra time to find the right way to develop this. Secondly, I have been helping my wife to establish a website so that she can start building a business out of. So I’ve been a little distracted.
Other Developments
Game development took a slight back seat this week. The addition of the new gym equipment went more smoothly than anticipated. Therefore, I decided to use some of my development time to deal with other areas that have been building up.
The most important thing when it comes to how to make a video game, is to actually make a video game. However, to help your video game be successful there are a number of other tasks that need to be performed. Although these tasks are not directly developing a game. They are equally important. One of these tasks is building a strong community. Not just building a strong gaming community but also keeping the community interested. I mentioned in my previous Gym Empire update about increasing the visibility of this website. I’ve done a number of things to help chronikspartan.com be found when people search for new tycoon games, sim games, game development etc. According to Google it’s already making a positive impact. However, the progress, like anything worthwhile doing, will be slow and steady.
Chronik Spartan ARG
Another area had also been on my mind. That was to deliver on the promise I made a few weeks back in my post about ARGs. I’ve not wanted to rush something out just for the sake of it. So I’ve been thinking of some genuine story and some tricky challenges to let you get stuck into. Last week I was finally at a point where I was comfortable to roll out the start of the Chronik Spartan ARG. If you are in the Discord community you may have already noticed the first clues appear. If you are not in the Discord community then I urge you to join. Not only will you get access to the Gym Empire alpha build when it releases. You will also be able to jump into the ARG. As it stands no one has gotten past the first clue yet…
Time Management
The aim is still to have a playable version of Gym Empire available by the end of 2018. To achieve this I will continue to focus on the core aspects of tycoon game development. The game development tasks to focus on this week are:
- Building – Continuing on from last week and with building being a key feature of tycoon games. This will take up the major focus of this week. This is high priority to ensure that this feature is up to modern management game standards. I am also expecting that development of this game play feature may take more than just one week. But we’ll deal with that as we progress.
- Gym Environment – If the building feature goes well this week and there is room for other game development. Then I will continue to develop the gym environment. This includes adding in doors and windows to the buildings.
