I’ve been bouncing between Gym Tycoon and Gym Empire for the past weeks trying to decide which name is best.
In the Tycoon corner I feel it would be nice have Tycoon in the name as it stands out for me and takes me back to the good old days of the original Tycoon games. I’m also thinking it could help me in the discoverability of the game when people search for Tycoon games. However, I’m also finding it is starting to become a bit of a general term in the naming of games and isn’t always used for games that are true to the Tycoon genre. Also is it becoming an overused name? I don’t want Gym “Tycoon” to be assumed to be just another Tycoon game on the pile.
This brings me to Gym Empire. I think as a name it just sounds better and gives the game its own identity. The way the game will progress for the player and the general mind-set behind exercise and gyms I feel sits better with the word Empire than Tycoon. I do worry that the discoverability may suffer but at the end of the day if the success of Gym Empire is purely down to people stumbling across in searches then I’ve done something wrong…
You know what, I actually started writing this post as a brain dump to explain the two options with the idea that I would look for opinions to push me one way or the other, but as I’ve written the pros and cons down it’s become clear to me which name I prefer!
This game is going to have its own unique feel in the world of Tycoon games and is one I aim to feel true to the source material. I also intend on putting a lot of effort into building a community around it. So for that reason I feel Gym Empire is the perfect fit!
As I’ve said though I want the community to feel a part of this game and for that reason I am open to all opinions. If you don’t feel Gym Empire is the right choice or if you feel there is a totally different name that is better please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
