There’s not a whole lot to report on the progress of Gym Empire this week. Last week was quite a busy week as we prepared for a trip to Iceland to (hopefully) see the northern lights.
6 years ago I surprised my (then) girlfriend with a trip to Iceland to see the northern lights. On the second day we were treated to a spectacular display in the snow covered terrain in the middle of the night. Exactly how I had imagined the scene I then took the opportunity to get down on one knee and pop the question. Luckily she said yes!
It was only after we returned I realised how lucky we actually were to get the light show we did! After speaking to numerous people it seems that many chase the lights for months if not years on end hoping for even the smallest of glimpses. With that being said 6 years later I really wanted to try our luck again as the excitement of the proposal meant I didn’t savour the lights in my memory as well I would have liked to. This time though I knew to not expect to see anything. On the night before our tour the whole of Iceland was covered in cloud. The coverage was so bad that the tours had to be cancelled. Not a good sign for our hopes the following day.
In the morning of our planned excursion day the clouds were still very prevalent. However as the day progressed sunlight started to break through the clouds. As we approached the evening our hopes were a little bit higher as the activity levels were stated to be around 4 (relatively high chance of activity). After a 45 minute drive we finally arrived at the national park (the same place we had visited earlier in the day on the Grand Circle excursion). As we stepped off the bus into the pitch black and try to find our way to a nice comfortable spot we looked into the sky to only see darkness and some start mingled with cloud.
Then all of a sudden we heard someone shout “LIGHTS!”. We looked up to the west and there they were! The first appearance of the lights in the sky. They continued to race through the sky and even shone through the clouds when they came across them. After just a couple of minutes they were covering all of the sky above us and weaving their way above our head. We took quite a few nice photos but this time we focused mainly on savouring the experience.

Getting to see a vibrant display in our first attempt is ridiculously lucky but 2 for 2 is insane! Even if we didn’t get to experience them again Iceland is such an amazing country to visit and we enjoyed and learned so much about it that we would have still been so happy, but have such luck is amazing!
Anyway this was intended to be a progress update on Gym Empire but I went on a bit of a tangent, so I think I’ll change the title and do the progress update tomorrow.
OK so I changed the name, cool points to anyone that gets the joke!
