Gym Empire – Progress Update 12

Game Development So Far

Finally a week where I’ve not been battling with niggly little animation issues trying to get a client to sit on a bench!! It feels good! 😀 Instead this week I’ve been:

· Further refine the staff behaviour – staff behaviour is now more robust when going to train clients. I’ve also ensured the adding and removing of new staff character styles is modular. In a similar way to the changes I made to the clients the other week, from a development point of view, I am able to add new staff characters and the code automatically picks them up. This will drastically save time as I start to build up the character sets.

· Add staff icons – I decided to swap this task to instead focus on refining the client icons. I figured that the amount of information the player will need for a member of staff is much less than they need for the clients, therefore I’m focusing on getting the client icons look and feel right and then I will easily be able to add the staff ones later, which will be fewer if any are even required.

· Refine equipment code – I’ve made some early attempts at refining the equipment code, however my plan is change quite drastically how equipment is treated behind the scenes. The changes will bring it more in line with how the client and staff systems work enabling equipment to be more modular and easily added. The changes are quite large so this task will probably span a few weeks or end up becoming the sole focus of a week in the near future.

· Build up more UI – up until now the icons providing info on the clients has been a bit messy and takes up too much focus on the screen for my liking. I’ve started building up the UI so that clients will have a minimal amount of icons and the rest of the information and interaction will be through a dropdown menu. The menu is in place quite nicely, now it’s just a case of adding in the functionality.

Other Developments

This week has been nice and productive. For the past few months I’ve had that nice feeling of always knowing what I need to work on next and each task feeling approachable. In the past two weeks I’ve also started getting into a really good rhythm of getting up really early and maximising my available time. This has largely been helped by the fantastic weather we’ve been having here in the UK recently. It’s amazing how motivated you can feel when the sun is shining. It’s that time of year where everything feels its best. The months ahead hold the promise of more summer and holidays. Food tastes great and music puts a smile on your face. Maybe it’s in part to do with circumstances in my personal life and the smooth ride we’re on after the bumpy road we went through a few months ago, but everything feels great right now and that is translating into my game dev. I always find the positive in my situations and game dev is always a happy place for me, but when everything is just right it feels good to indulge in it while I can…

Time Management

So this week’s tasks are!

· Add functionality to client menus and clean up icon look

· Refine equipment code

· Implement full wall building menu functionality

· Implement in game camera controls
