Game Development
It’s been a good week for game development. It’s been really nice to get back into a rhythm of development that doesn’t feel repetitive and dull. This week has mostly focused on developing Gym Empire to start to feel more like a simulation management game. To do this I am following a path through the game straight from the start screen, into loading the first level and continuing to play the game.

The plan is that each time I come across a hurdle that stops the gameplay or the gameplay just doesn’t exist. I will develop that part of the game. The aim is to get through a basic first level doing this. Whereby at the end there should be a rudimentary first slice of gameplay in place. From this point on that slice of gameplay will act as the foundation for building the rest of the game around. The idea is to treat the gameplay like I have every other part of development so far. And that is taking an agile approach, whereby the gameplay is matured through each iteration.
I’m really excited about this part of the game development as it marks the first time since this all began that I will be designing simulation management gameplay. The thing I came here to do in the first place!
Other Developments
This weekend just gone marked the return of the PLAY Expo to Manchester. In 2017 I was fortunate enough to secure a place to demo GLO. Showcasing GLO at the PLAY Expo is one of the best memories I have to date in this game development journey! It marked the first time I felt I was taken seriously as a game developer. For that reason the PLAY Expo will always hold a very special place in my heart.
This year I was fortunate enough to secure a press pass to the 2019 PLAY Expo! With the growing of the Chronik Spartan Gaming YouTube channel I thought it would be exciting to see the PLAY Expo from the other side of the table. It was an amazing experience getting to chat with and meet loads of people! Friends I’d made at the first expo and new connections form this expo.
With my recent journey into the world of retro gaming it was great to experience the arcade, pinball machines and retro game stores. However the most amazing part of the weekend was connecting with and finding out about a whole new load of amazing indie games!
It’s really interesting to see the different inspirations and stories behind each indie game and just goes to show what an amazing and exciting community this really is!
Oh yeah I also did a-n-ice bath challenge…
Time Management
The past few months have been turbulent in terms of time management as you may have noticed. Things are starting to full into a much smoother rhythm now enabling me to continue putting focus on all my different projects. There are still some big improvements to be made but things are back in control now.
This week will see me continuing to developing the first slice of gameplay for Gym Empire. Alongside that I plan to finally start making changes to refresh the Discord server. As well as plan, film and edit a couple of collaborations on the YouTube channel…
Gym Empire is now available to add to your Steam Wishlist.
