Learning Everday

It feels like every day for the last week I’ve been learning something new. Yesterday I realised how good reddit can actually be. I’m embarrassed to say I’ve largely avoided it over the years as I assumed it to be a troll’s playground. You hear a lot of negative stories about how volatile the communities can be and as I’m now in my 30’s I didn’t have that youthful curiosity to delve into yet another social media tool. However I also keep hearing about how useful it can be. So I made an account yesterday and started browsing. Firstly to see what I can learn from it and secondly to understand how it might help me to build a community. I was nicely surprised! There are lots of really interesting posts and lots of communities ready to give copious amounts of feedback. It’s a bit too late in the game to start trying to use reddit to help with the visibility of Glo, especially if I want to avoid an onslaught of abuse for self-promoting. However it’s definitely something to go into the toolkit and in the meantime it’s a goldmine of interesting information.

As the days to release for Glo come closer I’m ensuring I remain realistic about my expectations. In some respects I am preparing for the worst. I think that is important to do to make sure I don’t get sloppy in my final push. The downside to that though is that there is a risk of demotivating myself. If everything fails and I have nothing I know to work on next time round, then I’m pretty much dead in the water. Fortunately as I’m still learning so much, if everything fails then I have so much I can work on and try and do differently next time. That makes me excited for the future, whatever happens.
