Hey everyone, how’s it going?
A quick update today on last week’s progress:
- Add fully functioning enemies to Glow – I managed to add the enemies to Glow and put in their core mechanics. I’m pretty pleased with how they are functioning so far. The next steps will be to refine their design and sound effects.
- Add different colour lighting to Glow – I played around with quite a few different blend modes for surfaces to get the colour glow I’m aiming for. None of them quite worked the way I was hoping so there’s more work to do on this. Basically I want the colour to tint the existing image rather than overlaying on top of it. I’ve been looking up some alternative techniques today and I have a new idea I want to try when I get home tonight
- Record another episode of Making An Indie Game – I didn’t get round to this and I’m starting to realise it’s probably better if I target this to be every two weeks rather than weekly. I think that would probably reflect better the amount of time I spend on Eo’s Adventure these days. I may move over to a parallel series for Glow.
- Start to organise the press list – I got quite a bit of traction on this. I’ve been created a refined list specific to the needs of Glow and I’m adding to it by researching YouTubers/Twitch streamers/journalists that have covered similar games.
- Get a decent layout sorted for chronikspartan.com – I feel I’ve got a layout working now that is easy to navigate and reflects the image I want to portray for Chronik Spartan Games, so I can consider this complete.
I’m quite pleased with what I’ve managed to cover. Again recording the episodes of Making An Indie Game have taken a back seat to the development of #Glow and my marketing strategy. I think this reflects what I’m prioritising at the moment and I think it’s important to acknowledge these changes and adapt to them in my work and planning. In an endeavor like this I think it’s very important to follow an agile way of working to help keep ahead in my progress. I am aiming to release Glow this year and during the most effective release window, so to do this I need to ensure that my work and progress on Glow is at the forefront of my work and everything I do in some way supports that.
So here’s this week’s task list:
- Get the different glow colour affects working and if not decide on a way forward
- Work on character animation
- Start adding sound
- Begin formalising the level designs
- Start looking at ideas for world bosses
- Add YouTubers/Twitch streamers to the press list that have covered related games
These planning and progress updates really help me to organise my mind week to week and I hope they give you some insight into how I go about fitting indie dev into my week. If there’s any feedback on how I deliver these posts please feel free to comment.
Thanks
Stav
