It was a very productive weekend. I completed all 100 levels and 4 bosses thus finishing the last big chunk of development on Glo. I also helped a friend move into his new house. We spent about an hour trying to navigate his couch out of his small apartment, reliving the “PIVOT!” moment in Friends. It was so satisfying once we finally got it into his new sitting followed up with a big hi-five!
One thing that’s important when putting so much dedication into a passion project is to remember to still make time for friends and family. When in the middle of it all, it can be so tempting to spend every available moment chasing that end goal. I would be lying if didn’t say that every moment not spent developing Glo feels like a moment I should be developing Glo. But it’s so important to remember that it’s my family and friends that have helped give me the confidence to start game dev in the first place, it’s family and friends that are currently my main fans and if Glo falls flat on its face, it will be my friends and family I’ll be turning to for comfort.
With that in mind I made sure that the weekend before I spent time to make this weekend free. I also decided to not attend EGX this weekend (the biggest gaming convention in Europe). And I’m glad I did that. We had a great weekend and it felt good to help a friend out.
The point is that just like trying to develop a successful and good game; relationships also take planning and sacrifice. But the rewards are worth it.
