Who’d Have Thought It? Planning Works!

Hey everyone, how’s it going?
So yesterday I talked about a plan for this week to try and get back on track with some of my tasks other than working on my new prototype. So I can report today that progress is going pretty well so far. I’ve already made a decent start on my press contact list adding around 400 entries, I’ve recorded the majority of my next episode for Making An Indie Game (I plan to post it tonight) and I’ve played around a bit with the code for Eo’s Adventure. As I suspected this is the more difficult task and the solution to the bug still alludes me, however I feel I am closer to understanding what may be going on.
To give you a bit of insight into the bug I’m trying to fix, I’m procedurally generating the scrolling terrain, which includes the box2d collision boxes. For seem reason my algorithm seems to add an extra box before each intended box. I had originally thought it to be a simple array issue (i.e. being out by one) but that didn’t turn out to be the case. I’m now thinking it may be to do with when I am assigning the body definitions for box2d. I have another fix I’m going to try which hopefully might go the trick!
I also managed to get a bit more work on my prototype for Glow done last night. I couldn’t resist as the ideas keep on flowing. I feel I am very close to being able to start focusing on level design which will bring me much closer to deciding a release date and to try and get some publicity started for it. I’m getting really excited to release my first PC game! J
I managed to get all of this done in less than 24 hours, including a full day at work, sleep, exercise and family time. The tasks themselves have not been particularly taxing but they are the type of things I’ve continued to let slip until today. I almost didn’t record my YouTube video to instead work more on the prototype but then I remembered that I said I was going to get it done this week. I guess it goes to show that planning things out and having some accountability in terms of doing what you said you were going to do really can make a difference!
To be honest I’ve always known that planning your tasks out makes a big difference but until recently I’ve let things flow more like a hobby rather than a career. But recently I’ve realised how much I want to pursue game dev as a full time career. So to have any hope of achieving this I need to treat it as so. So with that said, tonight’s plan is to upload Episode 3 of Making An Indie Game and more work on Glow…
Thanks guys!
